東京はすっかり夏の空です。
今日はリネン生地を仕入れにいってきました。
コロナ禍もあり、できるだけ自転車でてかけるよう心がけていますが、一日中座って作業することが多いわたしにはとてもいい運動にもなっています。
さて、今日はリネンのおはなし。

towelket tokyoをスタートした当時、わたしはベルギーの老舗ハウスホールドリネンのブランドLIBECOの日本代理店でお世話になっていました。リネン製ファブリックインテリアのオーダーカウンセリングをしたり、刺繍や縫製を承るなかで、品質の良いリネンに肌で触れ、本当の心地の良い暮らしにはリネンが欠かせないのだと身をもって学びました。
リネンは麻でしょ？とひと括りに捉えがちですが、麻の仲間にはヘンプ、ラミーなどがあり、植物自体が全くの別物です。
リネンのしなやかな光沢と、肌触りの良さは格別。夏のイメージが強いリネンですが、一年中着ることのメリットはたくさんあります。
もちろん暑い夏には優れた通気性と熱電導率がとても大きいことから、繊維の中で最も涼しい素材とも言われます。
しかし、冬に着るリネンには知られていない機能があります。それは、体温に馴染みあたたかさを閉じ込めることです。もちろんリネンの上にニットやウールのカーディガンを合わせることで、この働きは強まります。
リネンの優れた機能はこれだけではありません。リネンの吸水、速乾率はコットンの4倍以上です。これは汗を素早くすいとり、匂いのもとになる菌が繁殖する前に乾いてしまうということです。
他にもたくさんの書ききれないメリットがありますが、やはりリネンの最大の魅力はその質感ではないでしょうか。

It's completely summer sky here in Tokyo.
I went to buy linen fabric to market today.
Today's story is about linen fabric.
Most of garment of towelket tokyo are made of linen. I'm pursuing quality of them. And I'm wearing linen clothes all year round.
Why choose linen?
Due to technological advances, functional chemical fibers are being produced. Everyone has one, such as cold touch, quick dry, deodorant effect, etc.

I talked about a lot of linen's functions, I think the biggest attraction of linen is that its texture is very expressive.
You can wear a linen piece of clothing in any context. If you go to a party, all you need to do is iron for a formal look. At home, you can put it on once dried for a relaxing time. Linen is a versatile fabric.
As you can see from the words "Antique linen" and "Vintage linen", as it is worn and washed repeatedly, the texture will get better and better. Used linen is worth it.
